The Americas, the two continents, North and South America, in the Western Hemisphere. The climatic zones of the two continents are quite different. In North America, the climate is subarctic in the north, gradually warming towards the south and finally becoming tropical near the southern isthmus. In South America, the climate is tropical in the north, becoming cooler towards the south, and finally becoming a cold maritime climate at Cape Horn.
